What is a crossover in a speaker system?

In a professional loudspeaker system, the crossover is essential for ensuring that each driver only reproduces frequencies it can handle efficiently. Without a crossover, a tweeter might receive low frequencies that could damage it, while a woofer would struggle with high frequencies, causing distortion. Crossovers can be passive (using capacitors, inductors, and resistors) or active (using electronic filters before amplification).
