Networked control and monitoring: knowing what every amplifier is doing
Abstract. At show scale the amplifiers are distributed, busy and invisible. This note explains what continuous monitoring of gain, delay, limiter activity and faults changes about operating a system, and how SNet carries control alongside networked audio on one infrastructure.
The problem monitoring solves
A large system distributes its amplification across racks at stage ends, under stages and in ceilings. Without telemetry, the first sign of a failing channel is audible, in front of the audience, and diagnosis means a person with a torch tracing racks during a show. Continuous monitoring inverts this: limiter activity reveals which sections are being driven to their edge, temperature and fault reporting surface trouble before it is audible, and the operator sees the whole system as one instrument.
Control as part of tuning
The same link that reports state also carries intent: preset recall, gain, delay and mute per channel, from the mix position or remotely. System tuning stops being a walk between racks and becomes an adjustment loop at listening position, and configurations proven on one show recall identically on the next. Zoned adjustments, shading a hang or re-timing a delay ring, are applied in seconds against the design rather than by visiting hardware.
One infrastructure
