Le XTO S218F est la version volante du XTO S218. Même conception acoustique double 18″, même configuration prête pour cardioïde, mais un accrochage différent : il utilise le rail XTO partagé, il vole donc au-dessus de l'accrochage principal ou dans sa propre colonne à côté, sans langage d'accrochage séparé ni liste de pièces détachées séparée. Faire voler les basses plutôt que de les empiler permet d'obtenir une couverture uniforme de l'avant à l'arrière dans un bowl de stade, et une colonne cardioïde volée permet de les éloigner de la scène et des sièges derrière le réseau. Les arcs au sol et les blocs en end-fire ont toujours leur place, et le S218 reste l'enceinte pour cela ; la plupart des grands systèmes finissent par utiliser les deux.

Measurement conditions

  1. Maximum SPL is the peak level at 1 m, driven with pink noise at crest factor 4 to the clipping point of the recommended amplifier, with the SSOUNDS system preset applied. Full-range enclosures are specified under free-field conditions; figures marked half-space are specified over a reflecting plane, the condition subwoofers are deployed in, which adds approximately 6 dB.
  2. Frequency response is specified on axis at 1 m in a free field. The tolerance the figure is referenced to is stated alongside it; where no tolerance is given, the figure is the −6 dB bandwidth.
  3. Sensitivity is specified at 1 W into the nominal impedance at 1 m on axis, averaged across the pass band of the enclosure.
  4. Recommended amplifier power is the amplifier output SSOUNDS specifies for this enclosure, driven with the SSOUNDS system preset. It guides amplifier selection and is not an AES power-handling rating for the transducers.
  5. Nominal impedance is the manufacturer's rating for amplifier load calculation; minimum impedance across the operating band may be lower.
  6. All figures are typical values for production units specified under the conditions above. Individual units may vary within published tolerances.

System operation

Recommended: SSOUNDS D24X, one channel per XTO S218F (4 Ω) with the S218 preset loaded. Cardioid presets are supplied for three- and four-box columns. A flown subwoofer column is normally run as its own zone, so its arrival time and its cardioid rear rejection can be set independently of the ground-stacked arcs.
