Line source system

LS System

The line source platform: coupled array elements and a flyable subwoofer that hang together on one set of hardware.

LS stands for Line Source. A line source, in the acoustic sense: coupled elements radiating as one continuous source, so vertical pattern is set by the length of the array rather than by the individual cabinet.

The LS System is the SSOUNDS line source platform. Where a point source sets its coverage with a horn, a line source sets it by coupling: the elements behave as one continuous radiator, so the vertical pattern belongs to the array rather than to any single cabinet. That is what the name says and it is what the system is built around.

It is the platform to specify when the room is long, the audience is deep, and the difference between the front row and the back row has to stay small. The subwoofer flies on the same hardware as the tops, so a hang is one rigging decision.

LS shares its amplifier platform and preset discipline with the rest of the SSOUNDS range, so a rental inventory carrying LS and XTO is carrying one amplifier standard, not two.

Coupled, not stacked

Elements are designed to couple across their shared band, so the array reads as one source. Array length is the design variable, and it is the number that sets vertical coverage at the bottom of the range.

The sub flies with the tops

The LS310 Sub is built to hang on the same track as the array elements, so low frequency arrives from the same place as everything else instead of from the floor.

One amplifier platform

Driven and processed by the SSOUNDS D-series, the same amplifiers that drive the XTO System. Cabinets per amplifier are published per element.

Shared rigging standard

M22 shackle bumpers and captive rigging pins common with the wider SSOUNDS array hardware.

Array elements

The coupled elements. Chosen by throw and by the depth of the audience.

Subwoofer

Flyable, so the low end hangs with the array rather than sitting under it.

Amplification and processing

The same D-series platform as the rest of the range.

Rigging

M22 shackle standard, common with the wider array hardware.

Specifying the system

Theatre and auditorium

LS310 mains with the flyable subwoofer on the same hang, and LS208 for balcony fill or delay.

House of worship and conference

LS208 arrays where the hang has to stay modest, with LS310 Sub where the programme needs low-frequency extension.

Touring and rental inventory

LS alongside XTO on one amplifier standard, so a rack built for either drives both.
