NSPPD Prayer Conference Lagos 2026: how the sound was built

The NSPPD Nigeria Prayer Conference 2026 brought Pastor Jerry Eze's New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations to Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, and SSOUNDS delivered the audio, lighting, LED and staging for the whole build. This is what a stadium scale open air production looks like from the production side, and why the system was designed the way it was.

Tafawa Balewa Square is a wide open ground with no walls to help the sound and nothing to stop the wind. For a prayer conference the brief is simple to state and hard to meet: every word spoken from the stage has to be intelligible at the back of the crowd, and the worship has to carry real weight across the square without the front rows being overloaded. That is a coverage and headroom problem before it is anything else.

The main PA was 320 line array elements and 140 subwoofers, flown and ground stacked from PA towers set along the audience. Line arrays were chosen because they throw further and more evenly than point source cabinets across a long, flat crowd, and the towers put the arrays high enough that the sound reaches the back without having to be loud at the front. The subwoofers were distributed rather than piled in one place, so the low end was even across the square instead of booming in front of the stage and thin everywhere else.

The stage itself was built under a curved roof, which did two jobs: it protected the LED, lighting and backline from weather, and it gave the lighting designer a grid to rig from. The lighting was a mix of beams and washes over the stage, run from a console position in the field so the operator saw exactly what the congregation saw. The stage lighting grid and the lighting from the crowd are both in the photographs on the project page.

IMAG screens on both wings of the stage carried the camera feed, so people far from the stage could see as well as hear. On a conference of this scale the screens are part of the sound design: when people can see the speaker, they understand more of what they hear, and the system can run at a lower level for the same intelligibility.

Behind the scale is a small number of decisions that every large worship production has to get right. Place the arrays for the people, not for the stage. Share the subwoofers across the ground. Protect the equipment from the weather before the first truck arrives. Put the lighting operator where the audience is. SSOUNDS has delivered the same decisions for Koinonia Global at National Stadium, Abuja, and for the NSPPD Crossover Night at the same stadium.

The full project record, with the main PA figures and the photographs from the build, is on the project page: NSPPD Nigeria Prayer Conference 2026. The companion build for the same ministry, the NSPPD Crossover Night at National Stadium, Abuja, is here: NSPPD Crossover Night.

SSOUNDS designs and builds its own line arrays, subwoofers, amplifiers and DSP, and produces large open air worship events across Nigeria from its Abuja base. If you are planning a crusade, conference or crossover service at stadium scale, start with the houses of worship page, or contact the team with the venue and the dates.
