Carry1st Africa Cup 2026 Grand Finals, Abuja: esports built for broadcast

The Carry1st Africa Cup 2026 Grand Finals brought the African qualifier of the Call of Duty Mobile World Championship to the Los Angeles Event Centre in Abuja. SSOUNDS delivered the complete technical production: audio, lighting, LED, video and the broadcast infrastructure, with a crew of 34 touring and 8 local.

An esports final is a broadcast first and a live show second, and the production has to be designed in that order. The pictures that leave the building matter more than the view from any seat, so the camera plan, the lighting and the stage were built around the broadcast and then made to work for the arena audience, not the other way round.

The video chain was 25 cameras feeding an ATEM Constellation 8K switcher. That count covers the players, the casters, the crowd and the game feeds, and the switcher gives the director every input at once with the headroom to cut a long final without a dropped frame. The same chain fed the arena screens, so the people in the room saw the same cut as the stream.

Lighting was 434 fixtures. In a broadcast room the rig has two jobs that pull in opposite directions: it has to light the players and casters cleanly for the cameras, and it has to give the room and the stream a look between rounds. The grid was planned so that the camera-facing light stayed constant through the whole final while the show looks changed around it.

Audio was SSOUNDS LS310 and LS208 line arrays with 12 subwoofers, which is a compact system for a hall of this kind, chosen for intelligible casting and game audio across the seating without pushing the room so hard that the broadcast microphones picked up the PA. The subwoofers carried the game sound and the walk-in music without spilling onto the stage.

The project record, with the figures and the photographs of the finals stage, the arena and the crew, is here: Carry1st Africa Cup 2026 Grand Finals.

SSOUNDS produces tournaments, conferences and broadcast events from its Abuja base with its own loudspeakers, amplifiers and DSP. For an esports final, an awards night or any production where the stream is the product, see the stadiums and sports venues page or contact the team.
