Streams of Joy International, the ministry of Pastor Jerry Eze, holds a Crossover Night each year in Abuja, the service that carries the congregation from the last hours of one year into the first hours of the next. SSOUNDS produced the Crossover Night 2023 and a further crossover service with Pastor Jerry Eze, delivering the full production package: audio, video, lighting and special effects, stage and trussing, and screens.
A crossover service is a different production problem from a daytime conference. Everything happens at night, so the lighting and the LED carry the picture and the atmosphere, and the midnight moment has to land. The sound has to move between quiet prayer and full worship with a live band without the congregation ever reaching for their ears. And the whole build is for one night, so the rig has to go up, be tuned, run the service and come down on a schedule with no slack in it.
The audio system followed the same approach SSOUNDS uses on every large worship build. Line arrays were placed for the congregation rather than for the stage, with subwoofers shared across the ground so the low end was even, and the system was tuned in the afternoon before the service so that the first song of the night was already right. Vocal intelligibility came first, because a crossover service is led by the spoken word for most of its length.
Lighting and special effects were designed for the moment of midnight as much as for the hours before it. Beams and washes over the stage gave the worship its shape, and the effects were held for the crossover itself. Screens carried the camera feed so that people far from the stage saw the service as clearly as those at the front.
The stage and trussing were built and certified by SSOUNDS, which is what makes the rest possible: the lighting grid, the LED and the PA all hang from or stand on the structure, so the stage build is the first job on site and the one everything else waits for.
