Corporate AV and Conference Sound Systems
Corporate audio is a speech problem with a production budget. Everything that helps the room look good tends to hurt the way it sounds.
What this application asks of a system
The typical corporate room is a hotel ballroom or a convention hall: a low hard ceiling, a lot of glass, air handling running at full output, and banquet rounds that absorb sound at exactly head height. The audience is seated wide rather than deep, which is the opposite of what a narrow array wants, and the presenter is on a lavalier microphone walking towards the loudspeakers.
That combination puts gain before feedback, not maximum SPL, at the centre of the design. Pattern control that keeps energy off the presenter's microphone and off the reflective back wall buys more usable level than another kilowatt does. Delay positions matter too, because a room that is wide and shallow still has a back third that would otherwise sit in the reverberant field.
Then there is the schedule. A conference rigs in and out inside a working day, often over carpet, in a room that has to look like a boardroom rather than a venue. Systems get pole-mounted, ground-stacked or hung from a single point, cable runs have to be dressed and hidden, and the hybrid feed to remote attendees has to be as intelligible as the room itself.
What we look at first
- Speech intelligibility first: pattern control and coverage before output
- Gain before feedback with lavalier and lectern microphones in the coverage pattern
- Wide shallow rooms and the delay or fill positions that keep the back third out of the reverberant field
- The hybrid feed: what the remote audience hears is a mix, not the room
- Rig and de-rig inside a working day, with cabling that can be dressed and hidden
- Permanent boardroom and meeting-room installs, where the audio should be invisible
